To Twerk or not to Twerk

Is anybody besides me nonplussed by the verb "to twerk"?

Seems to me like a lap dance, only very public.

I'm not calling for a ban or saying I would disown my granddaughters if they twerked.

I guess it just makes me feel old.

Kind of like when rap music came along and I could not abide much of what was on the radio. Still, I bought my son a copy of As Nasty as They Wanna Be and was kind of proud that he was disposed to put a sharp stick in the eye of censorship.  He was young when he wanted that, but one of my co-staffers from The Daily Texan was prosecuted criminally for selling that CD on open shelves where kids could buy it.  (He prevailed.)

My son had watched me buy a copy of The Satanic Verses and display it on my coffee table even though I never could finish reading it.  I did not find it interesting, but when an author is threatened with death, I care.

I absolutely would spring to the defense of any woman who had the legal system brought to bear against her for twerking.

It just makes me feel old.
