Patriot or Surrender Monkey?

If I read these exact words again, I'm gonna puke. A Tea Party type complaining of a mainstream Republican voting to open the government and raise the debt ceiling until early next year:

"It was more of a surrender than a compromise."
I've seen that exact language enough that it has to be the party line.

OK, yeah, they're right. It was a surrender like General Lee at Appomattox was a surrender. You can quit now and keep your small arms and your horses...or you can fight on now and go home in a box.

But it's not just about you.  It's about your family.

Lee's army had to worry about who would put in a crop for the next year, since the "free" labor was going away.

Our country would be in a huge economic bind if the US dollar ceased to be the world's reserve currency.

Failing to repair our infrastructure at a time when we are suffering from unemployment and interest rates are very low is just stupid.

Driving up interest rates on purpose and shaking the world's confidence in the dollar borders on treason.

Looking at the map of whom the dead enders represent, it would appear they ought to have as much admiration for Robert E. Lee as they do for any of the scriveners of the Constitution. Indeed, they probably don't care much for the Yankees that tacked on the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments.

He was a tough dude, and supremely loyal to the Commonwealth of Virginia, but even General Robert E. Lee knew when surrender was appropriate.
